The Nacreous - Acrylic on Canvas by Roger Metz
(2026, 18" x 24" x 1.5")

"The Nacreous" emerges from the psychic automatism practice — pulled from the subconscious before the mind could interfere.

Three worlds. One truth.

Below, a road cuts through a field — fence lines converging at the horizon, the ordinary rural landscape we don't look twice at. Behind it, a forest. Ghosted. Bleached out. Barely holding its form — destroyed by the pollutants moving silently through it. And above, nacreous clouds. Breathtaking. Iridescent. Pulsing with color and strange organic life.

That's the brutal irony this painting doesn't flinch from.

Nacreous clouds only form when the stratosphere is cold enough and loaded with the right particulates. They are among the most beautiful things the sky produces. They are also a symptom of atmospheric damage.

The road keeps going. The forest disappears. The sky puts on a show.

Beauty and destruction sharing the same source. The hidden layer isn't hidden at all — it's just easier to look up.

This piece doesn't offer resolution. It offers clarity.
